Roberta Ellen Michaels was born February 4, 1936, at Williamsburg, Kansas. She was the daughter of Robert Aqilla and Amy May (Hoskinson) McCurdy. A near lifelong resident of Franklin County, she made her home in Wellsville, Kansas, until her death Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the age of sixty-seven years. She attended Williamsburg and Ottawa schools and later earned her G.E.D. Roberta worked for King Radio and Ottawa Truck, before working as an inspector for Our Own Hardware, all of Ottawa, retiring in about 1990. She was a very active member of Town & Country Church of Christ, serving over the years as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, church treasurer and a church camp helper. She was a talented musician and loved playing the piano and organ for church. She also really enjoyed working with young people. They knew how much she loved them, and they adored her. Years ago, she was a leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts. On July 1, 1952, Roberta was united in marriage with Lawrence Ray Yohe at Garnett, Kansas. They were later divorced. On September 4, 1987, she was united in marriage with Floyd E. Michaels at Ottawa. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her daughter, Ellen Loraine Gould and her husband, Noble, of Wellsville; four sisters, Phyllis Gearheart and her husband, Nelson, of Turpin, Oklahoma, Mary Lou Baker and her husband, Ross, of Ottawa, Ruby McKay and her husband, Don, of Ottawa, Judy Collins of Ottawa; five brothers, Robert McCurdy and his wife, Kay, of Ottawa, Eldon McCurdy and his wife, Sandy, of Ottawa, Ralph Wilson, Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Pomona, Gary Wilson and his wife, Sherri, of Ottawa, Mike Wilson of Ottawa; two stepdaughters, Sheila Rippy of Tecumseh, Julie Rodriguez and her husband, Rod, of Oskaloosa; two stepsons, Darren Michaels and his wife, Opal, of Scranton, Thomas Michaels of Tecumseh; four grandchildren, Christy Gould, Jonny Gould and his wife, Megan, Misty Kolars and her husband, Todd, and Danielle Gould; three great-grandchildren, Cylence Gould, Titus and Makenna Kolars; eight step grandchildren; and, ten step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Loren McCurdy; and, stepson-in-law, Richard Rippy. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, at Town & Country Church of Christ. IN STATE: Mrs. Michaels will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends 4 to 5:00 Sunday afternoon.
