Robert W. "Bob" Stout

Robert William "Bob" Stout, age 83, rural Lane, Kansas, passed away with his family by his side December 27, 2017 at the Olathe Hospice House. Bob was born June 7, 1934 at Wichita, Kansas. He was the second of five children born to James Earl and Bernadine Elizabeth (Buchholz) Stout. Bob grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita North High School with the Class of 1953. Bob's service to our country was with the United States Army. His military stint began in April of 1955. He was honorably discharged in April of 1957 and at that time transferred to the United States Army Reserves until April of 1963. Bob and Jane Maureen Burrows were united in marriage on July 30, 1960 at Wichita, Kansas. They became the parents of three children Robert Shane, Dellmar Bruce, and Elizabeth Jane. They made their home in Chanute until moving to Lane in 1972. Bob worked as a welding inspector for BEHM Steel Manufacturing in Osawatomie. He later worked as a mechanical inspector at Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant in Burlington, Kansas. He was transferred to Texas, Tennessee, and Louisiana before retiring back to Osawatomie in 1994. In 2002, they moved back to their home on the family farm at rural Lane, Kansas. Retirement didn't fare well with Bob. He kept busy working at the horse racing stables on the family farm and most recently had helped with his son's monument setting business. He was a member of the American Legion in Paola, the Elks in Osawatomie, and Knights of Columbus with the St. Philip Neri Church in Osawatomie. Bob was a man who truly enjoyed the simple things in life. He had a great love for his family and friends. A man of such compassion, honesty, and kindness is sadly a rarity in this world. His family and friends were truly blessed with his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Jim and Vernon Stout. He is survived by his wife Jane of the home; sons Shane (Debby) of Lane and Bruce (Toni) of Olathe; daughter Elizabeth (David) Rhine of Lane; 6 grandchildren Steffany (Josh) Madden, Kaylee (Trevor) Hurt, Kelsey (Anthony) Nolte, Kaitlyn (Cole) Hanich, Taylor Stout, and Caleb Rhine (Nacie Trumbly); 4 great grandchildren Jayden and Sayge Madden, Kaydee Hurt, and Grayson Nolte; two sisters Loretta and Sue Stout; foreign exchange grandchildren Lars Quincke, Lukas Heeke, Tom Smets and Bea Weinpel; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family and friends are encouraged to post condolences and memories on Bob's tribute wall.
