Robert Saunders Sr.

Robert K. Saunders Sr. age 83 of Linn Valley, formerly of Paola, passed away Wed., at his home. Funeral Service Friday, May 15th, at 10:00 AM, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Paola, Ks. Visitation Thursday, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, with rosary recited at 6:00 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel 305 N. Pearl, Paola, Kansas 66071. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Robert was born June 6, 1925, in Springfield, MO., to Joseph and Hettie Smith Saunders. He grew up and attended school in Urbana, MO. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, serving in WWII, and later entered the reserves and reenlisted and participated in the Korean War, being discharged in 1957. On Jan 17, 1947 after WWII, he was united in marriage to Inez I. Hillyer, in Olathe, Kansas. Together they raised two sons. After her passing in 1984, Robert, was united in marriage to Phyllis Krause, in Paola, on Jan, 17, 1986. Robert lived in Kansas City, Springfield, Missouri, and later moving to Paola, in 1957. Eight years ago, he and Phyllis moved to Linn Valley Lake, to enjoy the peace and quiet. He enjoyed RV traveling, dancing, and had a gift of gab. He never met a stranger, and was a great conversationalist. Robert will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, 5 sisters, Lue, Helen, Viola , Marie, and Maxine, and 3 brothers, Charlie, Bill, and Frank Franklin. Survivors are his wife Phyllis, of the home, son, Robert. Saunders Jr. and wife Julie, of West Union Oklahoma, son Mark A. Saunders, and wife Caroly Sue, of College Station Texas, two step-sons; Vince and Chad Krause, 5 grandchildren, and 1 brother Henry Saunders, of Junctions City Kansas.
