Robert Lee Heck Sr.

Robert "Bob" Lee Heck Sr., 84, of Louisburg, KS passed away February 23, 2016 peacefully at his home. Bob was born August 14, 1931 in Kansas City, KS, the son of George and Lela Heck. Bob graduated from Washington High School in 1950 where he participated in football, baseball, and tennis. Bob served in the United States Coast Guard from 1952-1956. On September 7, 1957, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Elaine Wilcox. Bob and Elaine cherished over 58 years of sacred matrimony. Bob began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1957 and retired from Lucent Technologies after 28 years in the telecommunications business. Faith, service, and family were highly important to Bob. He was a devout catholic that took peace in his daily prayers and served the church in many ways, including as an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bob also served in the Lions Club and volunteered for many activities especially during the time he and Elaine raised their 5 children. Bob enjoyed gardening, playing cards and Kansas City sports, especially Royals baseball and Kansas basketball. Bob also was a master on the barbeque grill, which made family outings very popular. Bob loved to laugh, had a smile that would light up a room, and was the sweetest of men. He is so loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bob is preceded in death by siblings Helen Rickert, Howard Heck, Bill Heck, and Gerri Heck. Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine, and four sons, Robert Jr. (Patti) of Mission, Randy (Connie) of Louisburg, Rick (Nikki) of Olathe, Rusty (Lori) of Overland Park, and daughter Rosalie (Kerry) McDonald of Columbia, MO; 12 grandchildren, Tracy, Brandon, Lauren, Lindsay, Cameron, Randy Jr., Colin, Briton, Graham, Kory, Kelly, and Madeline; and 4 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Luke"s Hospice.
