Robert L. “Bobbie” Kile, age 72, of Ottawa died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at his home. He was born on Wednesday, December 6, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Robert Kendall and June Rose (Kirkland) Kile. Robert grew up in Ottawa and during his working career, lived at many different locations and upon his retirement, returned to Ottawa. Bobbie graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1957. He was a Kansas State University Alum, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He worked from 1961 through 1966 as an architectural engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company. He then entered the computer programming field in 1966 and from the early 1970’s, he was self-employed as a computer scientist, working for numerous government agencies on both the east and west coasts until his retirement. He was a pioneer and leader in computer science, developing programs for both anti-aircraft and anti-submarine warfare. He was instrumental in developing underwater weapons systems on the Trident Submarine for the United States Navy. He was the only authorized civilian invited aboard its maiden voyage. On June 10, 1961 Bobbie was married to Eleanor Ott in Ottawa, Kansas. They later divorced. On April 1, 1978 he was united in marriage to Doris Jones in Oakton, Virginia. She survives. Besides his wife, Doris, Bobbie is also survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey Kile and his wife, Dr. Katrina John, of Brooklyn, New York; a brother, David G. Kile and his wife, Linda, of Ottawa, Kansas; a sister, Gloria A. Wolf, of Olathe, Kansas; nephews, Ryan Kile and his wife, Chris and Bret Kile; great nephew, Kwincy Kile and great niece, Karley Kile. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Robert David Kile. Cremation is planned and private family services will be held. An online guest book is available at www.dengelmortuary.com.
