Robert G. Courtney

Robert G. Courtney, age 80 of Ottawa, Kansas, formerly of Paola, passed away at his home on Friday, October 29th, 2010. (Cremation) private scattering of ashes at a later date. Robert was born on November 18, 1929 in Louisburg, Kansas to John R. Sr. and Ethel Kern Courtney. He grew up in the area and graduated from Paola High School in 1947. During his life, Robert was an office worker for the State of Kansas, Rock Island Railroad, the New York Central, and Santa Fe Railroads, and the Graves and Navajo Truck Lines. He retired from Southwestern Bell as a bookkeeper in 1991. Robert enjoyed cooking, crocheting, woodworking, working with his hands, and watching old movies. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Jr. and Wayne Courtney. Survivors are his sons, Dennis and wife Becky Courtney of Ottawa, KS, Robert Allan and wife Carol Courtney of Lihue, Hawaii, Gary and wife Becky Dinneen of Arkansas City, KS; daughter, Debra and husband Donnie Baker of Wichita, KS; brothers, Charles Courtney of Colorado Springs, CO, and Roy Courtney of Ottawa, KS; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
