Robert G. “Bob” Baer, 96, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Betty. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2014. They enjoyed over 67 years of marriage. Bob was born November 8, 1924, at Pomona, Kansas, the son of Dean and Lena (Kristenson) Baer. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident, living in the Pomona and Ottawa areas. On June 16, 1946, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Andrews in Ottawa. He loved to tell anybody who would listen that he married the prettiest girl on the north side. They were married at her parent’s house on Father’s Day. Betty loved to say that it was 116 degrees that day in the shade! For many years Bob hauled milk on numerous routes. He started with Bennett Creamery in Ottawa, also working for Mid America in Ottawa. Bob also farmed crops for over 50 years. In his younger days, he loved to go water skiing and boating with friends and relatives at Pomona Lake. Bob and Betty had a group of CB radio friends that camped and traveled with them. As a group they renewed their wedding vows together. He was a very active member of the Power of the Past and loved to restore old tractors. Oliver was his tractor of choice. Bob enjoyed listening to country music and watching farm shows on TV. In his older days, going to the store for his sweet treats was a fun outing for him. He loved his ice cream and cookies. Above all, family and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he always looked forward to the time they spent together. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, Dean and Lena Baer and two sisters, Grace Browning and Ruth Wieneke. Survivors include three children, Andy (Jean) Baer of Ottawa, Kathy (Charles) Ford of Olathe, and Julia McReynolds of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Angela Rice of Lawrence, Shanda Baer of Loveland, Colorado, and Ally Ford of Olathe; and a great granddaughter Meghan Rice of Lawrence. The family suggests memorial contributions to Power of the Past c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
