Robert E. “Bob” Ledom, 90, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation. Family will meet with friends from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 10, 2015, at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Robert was born Thursday, May 14, 1925, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of George A. and Hazel I. (Brown) Ledom. He was a near lifelong Ottawa resident. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1943 and immediately enlisted (*) to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater as a light truck driver and was honorably discharged in 1946 where he obtained the rank of technician 5. Bob continued his education at Ottawa University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education, and at Wichita State University graduating with a master’s degree in education and specialist of education. Robert and Doris Dean Mount met at Ottawa University and were later married September 7, 1948 in Kingman, Kansas. She survives of the home after nearly sixty-seven years of marriage. Other survivors include his two daughters, Tara Porter of Topeka and Lisa Miller and husband Kenny of Ottawa; brother, George Ledom and wife Woody of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Lindsay Porter, Jen Campbell, Andrew Miller, Addison Miller, Alyssa Crook, and Aaron Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Cade Campbell, June Campbell, and Anastasia Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Ledom; and grandson, Tyler Miller. Bob was a teacher and touched many students’ lives. In his early career he taught History and coached basketball in Clearwater and Florence, Kansas. He later became an administrator for Central Heights Elementary School in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He retired July of 1984 from Nike Junior High School in Gardner, Kansas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Ottawa Lodge 18, A.F. & A.M., former member of the Ottawa Lodge 803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and charter member of Ottawa Model Train Club.
