Robert D. Anderson, 91, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Anderson at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Robert was born Sunday, May 27, 1923, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Edgar and Helen (Sands) Anderson. He was a lifelong Pomona area resident. He graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1940. Robert was united in marriage with Cecile Catherine Altic-McKinley August 12, 1949 in Ottawa. She preceded him in death June 22, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Delbert Anderson; great grandson, Mason Anderson; and great-great grandson, David Johnson. Survivors include his five children, Bobby Anderson and wife, Sheila of Pomona, Larry Anderson and wife, Mary of Pomona, Shirley Swinehart of Scranton, Betty Flory and husband, Wylan also of Pomona, and Willa Lantis and husband, Gale of Baldwin City; siblings, Jean Holcomb and husband, Forrest of Olathe, Glen Anderson of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Alan Anderson and wife, Betty of Savannah, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Robert worked thirty years as a heavy equipment operator in construction, retiring in 1985. After retirement, he became a farmer working with cattle, sheep and goats. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II from December 26, 1942 to December 13, 1945. He served as a radio repairman. His decorations and citations included the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, Silver Service Star, and the American Theater Ribbon.
