Robert Lee “Bob” Bowlby was born on Monday, June 10, 1940, in Bucklin, Kansas. He was the son of Lee Bowlby and Alice Beatrice (Miller) Bowlby-Stanfield. A near lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, Bob made his home in Ottawa from 1951 until his death on Monday, June 28, 2010, at the age of seventy years. Bob attended schools in the Emerald community. He was employed by Harry Henry Construction Co., retiring in 1988. He had previously been employed by Killough Construction Co., Franklin County; Iowa Beef in Holcum; and Master Feeders near Garden City, Kansas. He was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church. Bob loved being a volunteer firefighter. He enjoyed watching the birds, riding his horses, spending time with his grandkids, and fishing. He also loved talking about cars with his son-in-law, Steven, and his neighbor, Tracy, who he thought of as a son. On November 4, 1974, Bob was united in marriage with Betty J. Ratliff in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. Bob is also survived by two sons, Steven Bowlby of Missouri, David Bowlby of Ottawa, Kansas; two daughters, Diana Bowlby of Ottawa, Kansas, Tracy Dickey and her husband, Steven, of Ottawa, Kansas; stepson, Mike Ratliff and his wife, Becky, of Ottawa, Kansas; stepdaughter, Linda Woods and her husband, Chuck, of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Joyce Glen of Walla Walla, Washington; three half brothers, Kenny Bowlby of Berryville, Arkansas, Larry Ray Stanfield of Wichita, Kansas, Billy Joe Stanfield of Wichita, Kansas; half sister, Debbie Mackey and her husband, Mark, of Berryville, Arkansas; and two grandchildren, Angela and Joshua Dickey. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sons, infants Robert and Rodney Bowlby, Randy Bowlby; and daughter, Angela Bowlby. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. The family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010. CEMETERY: A private inurnment will be held at Evergreen Mound Cemetery in Franklin County Kansas, at a later date.
