Robert L. “Bob” Cooper, age 84 of Richmond, Kansas, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on Monday, August 13, 1928 in Marshall, Oklahoma, the son of Louis C. and Alice Frances (Burns) Cooper. Bob was a lifelong resident of Richmond until moving to Ottawa Vintage Park four years ago. He graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1945. Farming for thirty years, Bob raised various crops, milked dairy cows and later managed a hog operation. He became Area Sales Manager for Vigortone Ag Products in 1972 and worked until his retirement in 1994. Bob was an active member of the Richmond United Methodist Church serving on the Administrative Board and Sunday School Teacher; Executive Board member of Franklin County Extension Council; Berea Boosters 4-H Community and Project Leader; Mid-America Dairy Association; Farm Bureau; Richmond Lions Club; Richmond Area Civic Organization; Central Heights School Board; Richmond City Council member for over twelve years later becoming Mayor; Richmond Fair Board Member, Director and Honorary Member with a total of over 45 years as a fair volunteer; Franklin County Council on Aging; Mid-American Nutrition Council; and an original Founder and Board member for Richmond Community Museum. On Sunday, August 24, 1947, Robert was united in marriage with Dorothy Marie Carey in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife - Dorothy Cooper of the home; Daughter - Janice Cooper-Rodriguez of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter - Diane Cooper-Burnett and husband Bob of LaCygne, Kansas; Son - Gary Cooper and wife Carol of Osawatomie, Kansas; Daughter - Donna Cooper-Brannan and husband David of Ottawa, Kansas; Son - Russell Cooper and wife Louise of Louisburg, Kansas; Sister - Helen Wooldridge and husband Ed of Longview, Texas; Grandchildren - Ten and Great-Grandchildren - Ten. He is preceded in death by his: Parents; Infant son - Lawrence Cooper;Sister - Virginia Cooper and Son-in-law – Cody Rodriguez. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at Richmond United Methodist Church, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Cooper at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 P.M. Friday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Friday. CEMETERY: Interment Princeton Cemetery.
