Robert “Bob” A. Leahew, 74, of Ottawa, passed away, Friday, March 12, 2021 at AdventHealth Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, March 15, 2021, at the mortuary. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. Bob was born Saturday, January 11, 1947 in Cherryvale, Kansas, the son of Robert C. and Martha (Clegg) Leahew. He was a resident of Ottawa since 2007 moving here from Salina, Kansas where he lived for 23 years. Bob graduated from Cherryvale High School with the class of 1965. He then attended Barton County Community College earning his Associate of Arts degree in criminal justice and attended Command Management College in Dallas, Texas. In addition, Bob completed many highway patrol trainings. He was united in marriage to Nancy Richeson March 21, 1979 at Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include children, Jamie McGinn (Ryan) of Shawnee, Kansas, and Clint Leahew (Angie) of Ottawa; sisters, Jeanette Hawkinson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Wilma Beck of Neodesha, Kansas and Doris Reasoner of Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren, Claire McGinn, Colin McGinn, Annie Leahew, Aiden Welch and Alyssa Welch and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Leahew. Bob spent 25 years serving the public as a highway patrolman. He was with the Kansas Highway Patrol from 1972 to 1997 serving in the Franklin-Douglas County area from 1972 to1984 and later with Troop C in Salina, Kansas, from 1984 until 1997, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. He also served the children of his community coaching youth football and baseball. Bob enjoyed watching KU basketball, camping, fishing, hunting and golfing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
