Robert Burney 'Bob' Hollon was born June 3, 1934, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of James William and Opal (Harris) Hollon. Except for five years living in Osawatomie, Kansas, Bob was a lifelong resident of Ottawa, until his death Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the age of sixty-nine years. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1952. Bob served in the United States Army Airborne-10th Special Forces Group from October 6, 1952, until September 27, 1957, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a serviceman for Bob's Refrigeration for 18 years retiring in 1995. Prior to that he worked at Gambles in Ottawa and Osawatomie from 1960 to 1974 as a salesman and serviceman. He also worked at Bendix in Ottawa, as well as Duke Manufacturing and Anderson Carpet. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. On February 1, 1953, Bob was united in marriage with Phyllis Jean Bones at Ottawa. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two daughters, Cynthia Marie 'Cindy' Barnes and her husband, Pat, of Old Fort, North Carolina, Teresa Lea 'Terri' Dixon and her husband, Gary, of Rantoul, Kansas; two sons, Robert Earl 'Bobby' Hollon and his wife, Esther, of Williamsburg, Kansas, Michael Eugene 'Mike' Hollon of Palm Bay, Florida; brother, Kenneth Hollon of Marshall, Missouri; two sisters, Rosemary Yohe and Jacque Eads, both of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Amy Castleberry, Anita Hoekstra, Christina Wells, Alissa Goertz, Autumn Pruitt and Dustin Hollon; and, six great-grandchildren, Kiera Johnson, Caia Wells, Ivey Castleberry, Wyatt Castleberry, Kelvin Pruitt and Austin Pruitt. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George Hollon, Ernie Hollon and Jerry Lee Hollon; and, three sisters, Bonnie Anderson, Virginia Payne and Fern Yohe. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Richard Dunn. IN STATE: Mr. Hollon will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.
