Robert “Andy” M. Anderson, age 83, of Ottawa, Kansas, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 13, 2022, at Heritage Baptist Church, 1781 E. 800 Rd., Lawrence, KS 66049. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment Lane Cemetery, 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 13th, with military honors by the United States Navy. Andy was born July 11, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of August J. and Ethel (Borne) Anderson. He grew up in Roeland Park, Kansas before moving in 1992 to Lane, Kansas. In 2020, Andy moved to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School, Shawnee, Kansas, with the class of 1956. Andy served in the United States Navy from January 1957 to October 1963 as an air traffic controller. On December 31, 1968, Andy was united in marriage to Viola Gass in Kansas City. She preceded him in death on November 30, 1994. Andy and Madalyne (Chapman) Roth were united in marriage on May 24, 1996, in Spring Hill, Kansas. She survives of the home. Andy was employed at Western Electric, later known as AT&T, as an electronics technician for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church, Lawrence, and former member of Victory Baptist Church, Osawatomie. Andy enjoyed sports following the KC Royals, Kansas Jayhawks, and KC Chiefs. His favorite TV programs were The Three Stooges, The Andy Griffith Show, and Adam 12. He enjoyed working with tools, tinkering, delivering Meals on Wheels, and was a door greeter at church. He was also preceded in death by his sister Mary Orme and brother Clarence Anderson. Other survivors include five children, Charessa (Chris) Witham of Pomona, Robert Anderson, Jr. of Independence, Missouri, Tom (Ruth) Roth of Olathe, Tim (Michelle) Roth of Graettinger, Iowa, and Effie Barrett of Tempe, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Heritage Baptist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
