Rita M. Fischer, 93, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the Dooley Center in Atchison. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. The Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M., Friday, February 25, 2022, at Sacred Heart, followed by a visitation for family and friends at 6:30 P.M. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Homewood, Kansas. Rita was born September 21, 1928, in Independence, Kansas, the daughter of John and Kathrine (Leurke) Dalsing. She graduated from Greeley High School with the Class of 1946 and continued her education, graduating from a beautician school in St. Joseph, Missouri. After school she moved to Ottawa, Kansas, where she began working professionally. On December 28, 1961, Rita was united in marriage to Bernard Fischer in Greeley, Kansas. After her marriage, Bernard and Rita moved to a farm near Williamsburg, Kansas, living there from 1961 to 1967. In 1967, they moved to a farm near Ottawa. Rita was a devoted lifelong homemaker and loved helping her husband with the family farm. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, and worked many years on the annual rummage sale and served at funeral dinners. Rita cared for everyone; in her youth she took care of her twin sisters for several years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and was an accomplished seamstress. Above all, Rita loved her family and grandchildren and always looked forward to the time they spent together. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Nancy Fischer, and three siblings, Virgil Dalsing, James Dalsing, and Agnes Sunderland. Survivors include her three children, David Fischer of Robins, Iowa, Sister Elaine Fischer of Atchison, Kansas, and John Fischer (Jeannette) of Ottawa; two sisters, Shirley Bowmaker of Fairview, Oklahoma and Charlene Bridges of Clovis, California; and six grandchildren, Jacob Fischer (Spencer), Megan Fischer, Brock Fischer, Anthony Fischer, Zachary Fischer, and William McCombs. The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Altar Society c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
