Ricky Matthew Harris, age 71, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at The University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 22, 2024, at Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church, 840 N Metcalf Road, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. Military honors will be provided by the Louisburg VFW Post 7348 and American Legion Post 250. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Louisburg Cemetery.
Ricky was born on Thursday, October 9, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the fourth of nine children to Olen and Doris (Harden) Harris. Ricky grew up and spent most of his childhood in Amsterdam, Missouri. He graduated from Miami R-1 High School in Adrian, Missouri, with the class of 1971.
After high school, Ricky enlisted with the United States Army on February 18, 1971. He served in Vietnam as a Medical Supply Clerk. Ricky proudly served his country for almost three years, and was honorably discharged on February 15, 1974.
On May 5, 1975, Ricky was united into marriage with Phyllis Yeager, in Adrian, Missouri. From this union they had three daughters, Annie, Wendy, and Tracy. Ricky and Phyllis were happily married for 48 years, just two weeks shy from their 49th anniversary.
He worked for Phoenix Building Group as a Superintendent for 14 years. Ricky enjoyed playing horseshoes, watching old westerns, and sitting in his chair. More than anything, Ricky loved spending time with his grandchildren and doing anything they asked of him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Doris Harris; and brothers, Terry, Tim, and Scott Harris.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Harris; three daughters, Annie (Paul) Goode, Wendy (Dave) Bindi, and Tracy (Roger) McCombs; sisters, Trudie (Bud) Muncy, Patricia Strain, and Winnie Autrey; brother, Frank Harris; 13 grandchildren that held a special place in his heart; three great grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
