Rick Darren McIntosh, 61 of Lenexa, KS left this world on Sunday, April 6th following a series of heart attacks that had him hospitalized for a few weeks. Rick was born September 30, 1963 in Covington, England, the son of Doug & Christine (Brady) McIntosh. He graduated college with a degree in Architectural Engineering before serving 8 years in the Royal British Army. He emigrated to the US in 1990 and was employed at Sprint for a time. He earned his black belt in Taekwondo and was an avid shooter at the gun range with his father and friends. For the last 20+ years Rick has enjoyed working with long time best friends at H&R Block.
Ricky married Shuxin Liu in 2016 and moved into their new home in Lenexa in 2022. Ricky was always available to help others with their projects and while learning Mandarin for himself, also helped Shuxin improve her English skills. He loved grilling out on weekends at home, puttering around in the back yard and doing a variety of home projects with his dad. Shuxin says that Rick was a very good friend, loving son, faithful brother, excellent husband, and great father figure to their two daughters. Video games with daughter Joselyn were a regular thing. Shopping and vacations with family were his favorite pastime. Ricky was a student of lifelong learning, spending hours researching topics that interested him. He was well read as evidenced by the full bookshelves throughout the house.
Rick is survived by his wife, Shuxin McIntosh, daughters Joselyn and Lucy, father Doug McIntosh and wife Sandi of Richmond, KS, brothers Chris & Qunicy Ray of Ottawa, sisters Jennifer & Tanya Jo also of Ottawa, brother Justin Ray of Kansas City, sister Teresa Bonilla of Salina, KS, brother Jeff McIntosh of Lane, KS and an aunt Carolyn Wilkerson of Franklin County, KS.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19th 2025 from 12:00 – 02:00 at Richter United Methodist Church located at 3153-3163 Idaho Rd, Ottawa, KS 66067. Ricky’s dad says it is just 5 miles west of Ottawa and a half mile north on Idaho Road.
