Richard "Rick" W. Lemons

Richard W. “Rick” Lemons, 70, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018. Family will meet with friends from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 11, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, with military honors. Rick was born May 22, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of John and Virginia (Williams) Lemons. He lived in Kansas City, Kansas for 35 years moving to Ottawa and Franklin County, where he has lived for 15 years. Rick served in the United States Army as a private in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. Rick was united in marriage to Donna Jean Ross May 28, 1969, at Kansas City, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two children, Karen Fernandez and husband John of Leavenworth, and Steven Lemons and wife Jessica of Pomona; mother-in-law, Ruth Ross of Kansas City, Kansas; two aunts, Pat Summers and husband Jim of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, and Mary Burton and husband Dennis also of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; two grandchildren, Steven Lemons, Jr. of Lawrence, and Jesse Lemons also of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his father, John Lemons; mother, Virginia Burton; grandparents who raised Rick, Virgil and Melvina Williams; and father-in-law, Don Ross. Rick worked all his life. He was employed with Data Documents, later known as Intelimail of Lenexa, in the warehouse as a forklift and machine operator for 25 years; and Overnite/UPS Freight of Kansas City, Kansas as a fuel bay/mechanic for 10 years, retiring in 2012. He was saved and baptized at Fairview Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Rick loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting all his life.
