Richard Lee Evans, 70, Rantoul, died Thursday, April 30, 2009. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul. He was born Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1938, at Burlington to Rufus Elmore and Marceline Louise (McVay) Evans. He was a lifelong resident of Rantoul. He graduated from Rantoul High School in 1956. He served as mayor of Rantoul and as a sheriff’s reserve officer for Franklin County. He was a member of the Rantoul City Council and the Rantoul Fire Department. He worked as a pumper in the oil fields for Don Bloomer and Towns Oil. He w also as a self-employed owner of Rantoul Gas Station. He retired in 2007. He married Bernadine Genevieve “Bernie” Hermesmeyer Friday, May 16, 1958, at Ottawa. She survives. Survivors also include daughter, Shirley L. Pennington, and her husband, Mike G., Lenexa, and Joanna M. Flora, and her husband, David W., Ottawa; a son., Dale E. Evans, and his wife, Julie A., Belton, Mo.; brothers, Kenneth P. Evans, Ottawa, and Wayne E. Evans, Ponca City, Okla.; sisters, Alice L. Vanwie, Rantoul, and Audrey A. Cox, Arma; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joeseph E. Evans. Friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be sent to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Midland Hospice Care in car of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
