Richard Koopman

Richard E. Koopman, age 61 of Paola, passed away at his home Aug. 1st 2010. Richard was born on Oct. 27, 1948 in Ottawa, Kansas to Lentz and Frieda Prothe Koopman. He graduated from Paola High School in 1966. He attended Kansas City Community College for two years. Richard was retired from the Olathe Post Office after working over 30 years. His hobbies were watching all kinds of sporting events. He was especially fond of the Kansas Jayhawks, the Royals, and the Chiefs. Richard fully enjoyed any activities that involved the children within the family. He also enjoyed the game of golf. Richard was very attentive to his mother as she was to him before her passing in 2004, it was a rare occasion to see one without the other. One of their greatest pleasures in life was sharing a meal with family or friends. He enjoyed a good game of cards with friends and family. Richard never met a stranger and enjoyed a good conversation. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Paola. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving family members are Marvin Prothe; Steve Prothe; David Prothe; Ron, Sarah, Jennifer, Matthew, and Marissa Bergman; Susan, Brian, Brianna and Brandon Yates; Sharon, Jeremy, Landon and Laikyn Beems; Joseph Prothe; Emily Prothe and Rosalyn; and many more extended relatives.
