Richard Joe Cruces

Richard Joe Cruces, 92, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Richard was born April 3, 1930, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Cecelio and Refugia (Alonsa) Cruces. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident attending Ottawa schools. Richard was united in marriage to Alta Mae Gibson August 22, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas. She proceeded him in death on October 10, 2016. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 48 years retiring in 1995 as foreman. Richard was a 58-year member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Abelino Cruces and John Cruces and sisters Mary Vega and Mildred Minded. He was the last of his family members. Survivors include a daughter Patricia Cruces along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
