Richard Franklin Stapp

Richard Franklin `Smiley` Stapp was born April 15, 1920, at Kansas City Kansas , He was the son of Frank Stapp and Ruth (Filmore) Stapp. He lived most of his life in Kansas City, Kansas, moving to Williamsburg, Kansas in 1989 where he made his home until his death Friday, February, 11, 2005 at the age of eighty-four years. Richard graduated from Argentine High School, Kansas City, Kansas, with the class of 1938. He worked as an assemblyman for General Motors at the Leeds Plant in Kansas City, Missouri for 23 years, retiring in 1975. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1947, during World War II and the Korean War, as a mechanic at Elgin Field, Texas. Richard was a member of the United Methodist Church, the street commission, and the city council all of Williamsburg. He was also a member of U.A.W. Local Union 93 of Kansas City, Missouri. On August 20, 1942, Richard was united in marriage with Evelyn M. Ricehouse at Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his two sons; Richard Donald Stapp of Overland Park, Kansas, and William Ronald Stapp of Overland Park, Kansas; two sisters,Carmaleta Sumonja of Edwardsville, Kansas and Bonnie Haworth of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; one brother, Frank Stapp, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas; two granddaughters, Stephanie Bennett and Amie Fisher; two grandsons, Jon Stapp and Brian Stapp; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Stapp is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Ellen Stapp; two brothers, Foster Stapp and Phillip Sanford Stapp. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Gail Bower, Williamsburg United Methodist Church IN STATE: Mr. Stapp will lie in state from 9a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service Tuesday at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. CEMETERY: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Williamsburg United Methodist Church or the Williamsburg Library, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
