Richard D. “Rick” Sawin, 57, of Princeton, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the church. Private family inurnment at Highland Cemetery at a later date. Rick was born Sunday, January 11, 1959 in Ottawa, the son of Robert and Patricia (Yockey) Sawin. He was a lifelong Princeton, Kansas resident. He graduated from Central Heights High School with the class of 1977. Rick was united in marriage with Sherry Lea Burns on April 26, 1986 in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his parents, Robert and Patricia Sawin; son, BJ Sawin and wife Bre of Olathe; grandson, Brody Sawin of Olathe; mother-in-law, Pat Burns; grandmother-in-law, Rose Hanes; brother, Rodney Sawin of Princeton; sister, Julie Windler and husband Fred of Osawatomie; nephew, Christopher Windler, and niece, Cassandra Windler. Rick worked as the Franklin County Weed Director for the last 25 years. He previously worked as the Head of Household Hazardous Waste, the Recycling Center, and the Transfer Station. For many years, he volunteered as the Ohio Township Fire Chief and was captain for the Franklin County Sheriff Reserves, where he served 30 years. Rick’s pride and joy was taking his grandson, Brody, fishing and taking him for tractor rides.
