Richard D. “Jonsey” Jones, Sr., was born on Sunday, June 2, 1929, in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was the son of David Riley and Estella (McKenzie) Jones. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, moving from Williamsburg, Kansas to Ottawa in 1983, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at the age of eighty-two years. For the past thirteen years, Jonsey was employed as a warehouse manager for Mid-America Nutrition in Ottawa. In the 1960’s, he worked as a machine operator for Jack Henry Construction. He also worked for Killough Quarry for eighteen years as a loader operator, and thirteen years for Fogle Quarry as a driller. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. Jonsey had fun with his family and looked forward to all their family gatherings. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling and playing cards, as well as playing practical jokes on his family and friends. He also enjoyed his co-workers, he lovingly called “his girls”, at Mid-America Nutrition. In 1950, Jonsey was united in marriage with Betty McDaniels. She preceded him in death. On Saturday, August 7, 1982, Jonsey was united in marriage with Sharon Gosney-Gregg in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two sons, Lee Gregg and his wife, Kim, of Ottawa, Kansas, Richard D. Jones, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Williamsburg, Kansas; two daughters, Tina Madison and her husband, Stanley, of Ottawa, Kansas, Sandy Nussbaum and her husband, Eddie, of Warsaw, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Chris Jones of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Glen Jones and his wife, Christine, of Pomona, Kansas; three sisters, Shirley Warren and her husband, Russel, of Ottawa, Kansas, Letha Coulter and her husband, Bob, of Burlington, Kansas, Betty Flora of Ottawa, Kansas; Aunt Goldie of Osage City, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Jones; son, Michael C. Jones; and daughter, Linda Heidle. As Jonsey requested, there will not be any services. Cremation is planned with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date. Family will meet with friends for dinner at the V.F.W. on Highway 59, in Ottawa, Kansas, at noon on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
