Richard Chaney Hollon

Richard Chaney Hollon was born on Saturday, July 2, 1949, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Ernest and Betty Jean (Caleb) Hollon. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. From 1975 to 1994, he lived in Pomona, moving to Ottawa in 1994, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the age of fifty-six years. Richard graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1967. He was hired as a Fireman's Helper at the Ottawa Power Plant on July 30, 1973, with promotions as follows: Power Plant Operator in September of 1980, Power Plant Maintenance Worker in September of 1983, Power Plant Coordinator in July of 1994, and Power Plant Superintendent in August of 1997. He served on the Kansas Municipal Gas Agency Board of Directors and as an alternate Board of Director's member for the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency. He was involved in helping establish the Energy Management Project No. 1. He was currently serving on the Joint Operating Committee for the Energy Management Project. Richard was very highly respected by all members on the Boards on which he served, by his employees, and all city employees. Richard was a person who enjoyed helping kids. He served on the Pomona Recreation Commission Board and coached Youth Baseball in Pomona. He enjoyed working around the house and watching sports with his sons. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who appreciated his time with his family more than anything. On April 13, 1968, Richard was united in marriage with Teresa M. Law in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two sons, Rick Hollon of La Cygne, Casey Hollon and his wife, Angie, of Pomona; brother, James Hollon of Pomona; three sisters, Clio Elrod and her husband, Roger, of Pomona, Patty Markley and her husband, George, of Ottawa, Grace Wertenberger and her husband, Don, of Hays; four grandchildren, Quentin, Korine Leslee, Cody, and Hunter; and their four-legged children. Richard is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from First Assembly of God Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hollon at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Evergreen Mound Cemetery, Franklin County. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
