Richard A. Foltz, age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at Hospice House of Olathe.
Memorial services with military honors by the United States Army will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 6, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. An opportunity to visit with the family will follow the service.
Richard was born Friday, October 23, 1936, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Louis Peter and Elizabeth Pearl (Wittman) Foltz.
Richard graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1954 and spent the majority of his life as a Princeton resident.
He was united in marriage to Frieda L. Kochenower December 31, 1955, at Princeton, Kansas. They later divorced. Richard then married Judy (Thompson) Murphy October 12, 1990, at Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1961 as an SP4 in the Artillery Unit, stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Several years after serving in the military, Richard purchased Foltz Truck Line from his parents and was the owner/operator in Princeton, retiring in 1992. He then owned and operated Classic Oak Furniture in Ottawa from 1992 to 2012.
In his early years, Richard was a former member of the United Methodist Church and a 4-H leader with the Acorn Rustlers 4-H Club. He also was a board member on the Princeton Recreation Commission and was instrumental in building the Princeton Community building and baseball field.
Richard enjoyed farming, attending his children’s sporting events, traveling, and going to the casino. He loved visiting with family and people who came into the furniture store. During his travels, he visited 40 of the 50 states.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Michael Foltz; brother, Robert Foltz; sister, Barbara Geiler; great granddaughter, Ryka Cooper; sister-in-law, Edna Foltz; and first wife, Frieda Foltz.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Foltz; children: Christie Massengale of Ottawa, Kathi Branyon (Bart) of Desoto, Roger Foltz (Linda) of Augusta, Vicki Cooper (Chris) of Clearwater, Kendra Dwyer (David) of Wellsville, and Brett Murphy (Jensina) of Alma; brothers, Ronald Foltz of Richmond, and Rex Foltz (Linda) of Rolla, MO; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
