Rex Herbert Griffin, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends following the memorial service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Rex was born Sunday, September 15, 1929, in Burns, Kansas, the son of Harold Marion and Amy May (Mitchell) Griffin. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. Rex was united in marriage with Patricia Decock March 16, 1956, in Harrisonville, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2011. He was also preceded in death by his son, Steven Griffin; four sisters; four brothers; granddaughter, Satrina Collins; and great-granddaughter, Lindsey Griffin. Survivors include his four children, David Griffin and wife Shirley of Ottawa, Ted Griffin and wife Linda of Ottawa, Cindy Wolf of Ottawa, and Jerry Griffin of Garnett; nine grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He worked for the City of Ottawa as a laborer for ten years. Rex was an avid channel cat fisherman and camper who enjoyed taking his grandkids on all his outdoor adventures. He also enjoyed the casinos. Rex was loved by many and will be missed and fondly remembered.
