Rex H. Bartlow, 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014, in Topeka, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, at North Baptist Church, 413 E. Wilson, Ottawa. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, with military honors by Kansas National Guard Honors Detail. Rex was born August 7, 1932 in Aline, Woods County, Oklahoma, the son of Earl Irwin and Rachel Harriet (Icke) Bartlow. He was a resident of Franklin County, Kansas for more than thirty-five years. Rex attended school at Waynoka, Oklahoma with the class of 1951 with three years of secondary schooling; a graduate of Army Engineer Officer Basic and Advance School, a graduate of Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of Armed Forces and numerous other military schools. He served thirty years in Military/Civil Service, retiring in 1986; worked ten years with Crown Realty, ten years with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, and had a small farm during most of the last twenty-five years. Rex served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from September 1, 1950 until June 12, 1952, attaining the rank of Corporal. He served thirty years in the Kansas Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Colonel and served as the Chief of Staff of the 35th Infantry Division. He was a member of Gideon International and the Ottawa North Baptist Church, where he was a past moderator and Deacon. He was also a life member of the National Guard Association of the United States and the National Guard Association of Kansas, the 35th Infantry Division Association and the 45th Infantry Division of Oklahoma. Rex was united in marriage with Ardena L. Inman May 15, 1954, in Waynoka, Oklahoma. She survives of their home. Other survivors include his three children, Bradford R. Bartlow and wife Ann of Topeka, Kansas, Ladena G. Fulmer and husband Steve of Kansas City, Missouri; and Michael D. Bartlow and wife Melanie of Baldwin City, Kansas, four brothers, Earl D. Bartlow and his wife Norma of Jamestown, California, Elmer W. Bartlow and his wife Marilyn of Buena Vista, Colorado, Victor R. Bartlow and his wife Janie of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Mel D. Bartlow and his wife Peggy of Marble Falls, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Joan Bartlow of Enid, Oklahoma, and Myreta Williams of Topeka, Kansas; brother-in-law, Loyd Wilson and wife Francis of Yukon, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and infinite brothers and sisters in Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elsie M. Carpenter and Leta I. Wilson; and two brothers, Warren H. and Norman L. Bartlow.
