Rex Alden Myers

Rex Alden Myers was born June 9, 1936, in the Centropolis Community of Kansas. He was the son of Fred and Lela (Patton) Myers. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he lived in Ottawa the past forty-three years, until his death Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the age of sixty-six years. Rex graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1954. He was a lifelong truck driver, retiring in 2001. He was employed twenty-four years with Exxon in Olathe and formerly drove for Farmland Industries. Rex served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ottawa. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed playing golf, traveling and camping. He also had fun gambling. Rex really enjoyed his profession. His most enjoyable time trucking was with his buddy, Joe. He was a kind man who never met a stranger. Above all, Rex was a dedicated family man, who greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and his many friends. On January 26, 1958, Rex was united in marriage with Sandra Jo Griffin at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1992. On July 4, 1994, he was united in marriage with Donna Jean Stillians at Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives of their home. He is also survived by six sons, Michael Myers and his companion, Catherine, Scott Myers and his wife, Lonna, Eddie Myers, Jeff Myers, all of Ottawa, Kevin Stillians and his wife, Kim, of Parker, Toby Stillians and his wife, Tina, of LaCygne; daughter, Karla Branam and her husband, Robbie, of Williamsburg; brother, George Myers and his wife, Eva, of Ottawa; sister, Pattie Rockhold and her husband, Keith, of Centropolis; fourteen grandchildren; and, one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Myers; and, grandson, Jordan Myers. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Clyde Greisen. IN STATE: Mr. Myers will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Union Cemetery, Centropolis. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
