The Rev. James William Howie, 69, Ottawa, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. A requiem mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church, Ottawa, with the Rt. Rev. Dean E. Wolfe, Bishop of Kansas, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gail E. Davis, rector of Grace Episcopal Church. A second requiem mass will be at St. Paul's on the Hill Episcopal Church, St. Paul, Minn., at a later date. He was born April 29, 1938, at Minneapolis, Minn., to William Alexander and Edna Sofia (Elving) Howie. He lived at Minneapolis, Minn.; Springfield, Mo.; Olathe; Lake City, Minn.; Toledo, Ohio; Green Bay, Wis.; and Rossville, Minn. He moved to Ottawa in 2005. He graduated from Breck School, Minneapolis, Minn., in 1956; the University of Minnesota in 1960 with a bachelor of arts in psychology; and Nashotah House Seminary in 1967 with a master of divinity. He was ordained in the Diocese of Minnesota in 1968. He served parishes in Elk River, Richfield, Edina and Lake City, all of Minnesota; Springfield, Mo.; Olathe; and Toledo, Ohio, where he retired in 1998. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Ottawa. He married Georgia L. Eason April 5, 1975, at Springfield, Mo. She survives. Survivors also include a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Howie and Katie McNamara, St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Carole Lynch, Minneapolis, Minn.; two nieces and two nephews. SERVICES: A Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa, with The Rt. Rev. Dean E. Wolfe, Bishop of Kansas, officiating, assisted by The Rev. Gail E. Davis, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church. A second Requiem Mass will be held at St. Paul`s on the Hill Episcopal Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, at a later date. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either St. Aidan`s Episcopal Church of Olathe, Kansas, or The Presiding Bishop`s Fund for World Relief (via any Episcopal Church), or c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. May his soul, and that of all the Faithful Departed rest in Peace, and in the presence of the Holy Angels of God, who serve Him without ceasing in His Holy Courts.
