Rena Marie Morgan passed away September 23, 2012 at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rena was born April 5, 1931 in Osawatomie, Kansas to John and Nettie (Cox) Clearwater. She attended school in Osawatomie. On December 12, 1948, Rena was united in marriage to Dan Morgan in Osawatomie. Three children were born to this union. In her earlier years, Rena worked at the Coat Factory then later sold Avon and assisted her husband with his trucking company from home. She then worked five years as a dispatcher at the Paola Police Department. When her husband Dan was elected Sheriff, she began cooking for the prisoners at the Miami County Sheriff"s Department, retiring in 1994. She was known county-wide for her outstanding home cooked meals at the jail. Enjoying her husband"s love of racing, Rena also won her share of trophies driving in the powder puff derbies at the Miami County Race Track. She enjoyed bowling in a league for many years as well. She loved spending time with friends and family, cherishing her close friends Marsena Hadlock and Donna Watts. The community was blessed by her many years of dedicated service. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years and the American Legion for 31 years where she was instrumental in poppy sales for the Veterans. Working beside her husband once again, she volunteered her time to the Miami County Civil Defense organization for over 30 years. Rena was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Dan of the home; her daughters Terry (Larry) Grant of Osawatomie, Sheri (Bob) Gregory of Paola and son Danny (Laurie) Morgan Jr. of Olathe; siblings Wanda, Pearl, Charles and Bob; six grandchildren Brian, Kristie, Shelly, Corey, Brad and Aaron; seven great-grandchildren Becca, Jastin, Bethie, Abby, Nate, Katie and Kinsley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Miami County Cancer Foundation or Hospice of Olathe.
