Reid T. Harder, age 95, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010. He was born on Tuesday, February 23, 1915, in Lockport, Illinois, the son of R. Osgood and Otie (Thomas) Harder. At the age of three, Reid moved with his family from Illinois to Homewood, Kansas, and to Ottawa in 1937. Reid graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1933. He had a variety of different jobs. He worked at a grocery store, for Kaiser Drug Store, on a Carnival circuit, and was also co-owner and operator of R & R Recreation in Ottawa. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; life member of Ottawa Lodge #18 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons; and Forest Park Tennis Club, all of Ottawa. He was an avid sports fan, following local High School sports and Kansas City Royals Baseball. He also enjoyed playing Dominoes and going to movies. On June 2, 1937, Reid was united in marriage with A. Vivian Brown in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 14, 1978. He is survived by: Daughter-Gwen A. Todd of Ottawa, Kansas Son-Fred Harder and his wife, Rita, of Tucson, Arizona; Sister-Margaret Douglass of El Paso, Texas; Grandson-Brad Harder; Grandson-Scott Harder; Grandson-Kevin Harder; Grandson-Travis Potter; Best Friend-Mark Lysaught; Former daughter-in-law-Liz (Keller) Harder; Four-Gt.Grandchildren and Four-Gt.Gt.Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his: Wife Vivian; Father-R. Osgood Harder; Mother-Otie (Thomas) Harder and a Grandson-Joe Gibson SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010. IN STATE: Mr. Harder will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
