Reed F. Richardson, 85, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the First Christian Church, 200 S. Walnut Street, Garnett. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Monday, March 2, 2020 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg with military honors by the Kansas National Guard Honor Guard. Reed was born July 20, 1934 in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Carl and Elsie (Smith) Richardson. He grew up in Ottawa moving in 1967 to Garnett. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1953. He then served 14 years in the Kansas National Guard from 1953 to 1967. On March 20, 1955 Reed was united in marriage to Carol J. Reekie in Ottawa. They shared nearly 65 years together. Reed was employed by A & P Grocery as a manager from 1953 to 1975 in Ottawa and later in Garnett; Singer Electric as an electrician from 1975 to 1977 in Garnett; Millers Ace Hardware as a sales clerk from 1977 to 1993 in Garnett; Plumbing & Heating Unlimited as a technician in Garnett from 1993 to his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett serving as Deacon, Elder and was the head of several committees. He was a member of the Garnett Housing Board for 30 years; Chippewa Amateur Radio Club; and was active in Boy Scout Troop 77 in Ottawa and later Troop 126 in Garnett. Reed enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Carol of the home; three children, Carl Richardson and wife Lana of Emporia, Kathy Wulfkuhle and husband Chris of Spring Hill, and Steven Richardson and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Bertha MaGee, Mazie Maxey, Madge Womack and Ada Weldon. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church in Garnett c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
