Rebecca L. Ames, 73, passed from this life and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 20th at Ottawa, KS. She was born April 9th, 1938 at Harris, MO to Austin Cecil Todd and Rebecca Frances (Cloyd) Todd. She graduated from Westport High School, Kansas City, MO in 1956. In 1959, she married Stuart W. Smith and lived in KC, MO. They divorced. Two children were born to them: a daughter, Stephanie L. Smith, and a son, Stanley Todd Smith. In 1972 she moved to Ottawa, KS, working for several years as a production worker at H.D. Lee and a Production Supervisor at Platners MFG. She married Daniel R. Ames Feb. 14, 1981 and spent the rest of her life as a homemaker and artist. Rebecca was well known in regional craft circles as an exceptional artist in free form clay sculpture in miniature. Her work was shown in area craft shows and retail outlets. She attended First Assembly of God, Ottawa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Austin C. and Rebecca F. Todd; her sister, Ruth E. Todd; and her daughter, Stephanie L. Smith. Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Stanley T. Smith, Schwenksville, PA; a stepdaughter, Andrea F. Rogers, Pomona, KS; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 9:00 a.m. Friday to service hour, where family will meet with friends 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2:00 P.M, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. Rev. Dan Ames officiating. Her casket will remain closed.
