Raymond Carey

Raymond Ralph Carey was born on Friday, July 19, 1935, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Charles Dewitt and Edna (Guy) Carey. Raymond lived in Ottawa sixty-six years, moving with his wife to their farm in the Williamsburg area in 2002, where he made his home until his death on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the age of seventy-five years. Raymond graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1953. He was self-employed his entire working career as a mechanical contractor starting in 1953 and owned and operated Carey Mechanical. At one time, he was the youngest journeyman plumber in Kansas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ottawa and sponsor of the Ottawa Junior Wrangler Horse Riding Group. Raymond served on the Plumbing Board of Ottawa, the Uniform Plumbing Board of Appeal and six years on the Ottawa Planning Commission. He was appointed by the Kansas Governor as a Franklin County Commissioner for three and one-half years. Raymond was a horseman, a private pilot, and the number one Newt Gingrich fan. He also enjoyed sailing. On Saturday, January 8, 1955, Raymond was united in marriage with Ruth Arline Turner in Homewood, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two daughters, Sheri Crane and her husband, Rodney, of Ottawa, Kansas, Susan Vague and her husband, David, of Ottawa, Kansas; three sons, Victor Carey of Michigan Valley, Kansas, Mark Carey and his wife, Jana, of Ottawa, Kansas, Joseph Carey of Rapid City, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, Chris Crane, Sabrina Meador, Samantha Carey, Justin Carey, Nick Carey, Andrew Carey, Chris Vague, Megan Vague; and eight great-grandchildren, Shelby Crane, Clayton Meador, Willie Meador, Charlie Meador, Hannah Carey, Landon Carey, Tayler Alterman, Ayden Alterman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dewitt and Edna Carey; brother, Charles Carey, Jr.; and sister, Mildred Ginn. IN STATE: Mr. Carey will rest in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Monday to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends 7:00 to 9:00 Monday evening. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at First United Methodist Church of Ottawa. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
