Ray Lowell Dial, age 84, of Paola, Kansas passed away May 15, 2016 at Miami County Medical Center, Paola, KS. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home - Paola Chapel. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071. Interment will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery with military honors. Ray was born September 26, 1931, at Tamaroa, Illinois, the son of Mervin Lowell and Agnes Emiline (Hendrix) Dial. He grew up in Arkansas and attended school there until moving with his family to Osawatomie, Kansas. Ray served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. His military stint was from November 20, 1952 until he was honorably discharged November 19, 1954. At that time, he entered the Army Reserves completing eight years with the military. Ray and Geraldine "Gerry" Plaisted were married July 9, 1955 at Osawatomie, Kansas. They became the parents of six children. The family lived in Osawatomie until Ray and Gerry moved to Paola after retiring. Ray worked as a carpenter. He was employed by Standard Homes Company, Olathe, Kansas. He was known as a great cook. He also worked as a cook at several private clubs in the area. He was a NASCAR racing fan, enjoyed gardening, liked country music, and loved time spent with his family. He was a member of the Paola VFW, Paola American Legion, and Osawatomie Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Gerry of 58 years, parents Mervin Lowell Dial and Agnes Emiline (Hendrix) Dial, two brothers Donald and John; two sons Roy Steven and Tony Paul, and one granddaughter Carla Jean Dial.Survivors include his sons Gary Ray (Peggy) of O'Fallon, IL, Kevin Alan (Kim) of Gardner, and Brian Kent of Paola; daughter Cindy Lou Dial of Paola; sisters Bobbie Lee Whitney of Linn, MO, Jeris Laneal Coffelt of Osawatomie, and Joe Ann Walker of Overland Park, KS; half brothers and half sisters Debbie Ellsworth, Jackie Hauber, Jane Manchester, David Dial, Ricky Dial, and Danny Dial; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
