Rachel Lentz Miller, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 28, 2014 at North Point Skilled Nursing. Rachel was born on February 5, 1918, in Osceola, Missouri, to Ester and Jasper Hunt. She was delivered by a rarity at the time, a lady doctor, in the downtown hotel. Her parents were driving to Kansas City when she decided to be born in Osceola. After her graduation from Fairview, Oklahoma High School, her family moved to Paola in 1938. She completed the Business Course at Ursuline Academy, where she made lifelong friends. On December 31, 1941, she married D. S. Lentz. Not long after, D. S. left to serve in the U. S Coast Guard. Two children were born, Richard and Sara Ann, before the family returned to Paola in 1946, where D. S. bought a business. Rachel was a full time homemaker till she joined Kansas City Power and Light at the Paola Branch Office in 1953. D. S. passed away in 1967. For the next seven years, Rachel shared her home with her Mother, Ester Chapin Hunt. She worked, traveled, visited her family and pursued her many interests in her church, clubs and other organizations. She married Milferd Miller in 1974 and they made their home in Paola, where they enjoyed their many friends, their families and their many activities. Rachel retired from KCP&L in 1980. Milferd retired as a Rural Mail Carrier soon after. The Millers traveled, played golf, worked on their home, and generally enjoyed life until first Sara (1989), and then Milferd (1992) passed away despite her devoted care. She then filled her life with part time work she enjoyed at a local bank, attending clubs and working in her church, enjoying her family and her friends, cooking, sewing and celebrating life. She remained active until shortly before her passing. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Rachel is survived by her son, Richard Lentz of the home; her three grandchildren, Bill Lentz (Christine), Kearney, MO, Heather Norris (Hayden), Gainesville, FL, Courtney Miller (Michael), Santa Clarita, CA; and her five great grandchildren, Drew and Sydney Lentz, Benjamin and Susanna Norris, and Jake Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ester and Jasper Hunt; her two brothers, Jake and Dick Hunt; her husband, D. S. Lentz; her daughter, Sara Ann Sherlock; her husband, Milferd Miller; and her infant great grandson, William Lentz.
