Phyllis Jean Lytle, 84, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday September 5, 2020, at Evergreen Community of Johnson County. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Lakeview Cemetery, Erie, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 11, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. At the families request masks are required at both events. Phyllis was born Thursday, December 5, 1935 at Erie, Kansas, the daughter of Durward Taylor and Helen Marie (Walker) Hines. She grew up in Erie; lived in Parsons, Kansas while working as an operator for Southwestern Bell and lived in Liberal, Kansas prior to moving to Ottawa, Kansas in January 1963. Moving to Spring Hill in 2010. She graduated from Erie High School as valedictorian with the class of 1954 and attended Labette County Community College. Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald Lee Lytle May 27, 1956 at Erie, Kansas. He preceded her in death September 8, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Louis Hines and John Hines; infant sister, Betty Joan Hines; grandchild, Michael Craddock; sister in laws, Lloydeen Hines, Marilyn Hines and Betsy Hines. Survivors include sons, Alan Lytle and his wife, Carol of Spring Hill, David Lytle and his wife, Laurian of Leawood, Gary Lytle and his wife, Regina of Farmville, North Carolina; and five grandchildren. Phyllis worked as an accounts payable clerk for Skyhook – Phoenix Corporation in Ottawa from 1972 until retiring in 1997. She was an active member, church elder and Sunday school teacher of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Ottawa and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Phyllis was also part of a long-time small group called the Share Group. Phyllis was an avid reader for most of her life and enjoyed square dancing with the Ottawa Promenader’s Square Dance Club. She was an entrepreneurial baker/cake decorator and enjoyed boating, water skiing and cove camping at eastern Kansas lakes with the family.
