Phyllis Herndon

Phyllis Herndon, age 68, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Richmond Care Center in Richmond, Kansas. She was born on Saturday, March 8, 1941, in Cedar Creek, Missouri. She was the daughter of Andy and Myrtle (Rowland) Collins. She grew up in Cedar Creek, Missouri, moving to Plattsburg, Missouri, where she met her husband, prior to moving to Olathe in 1957 and the Richter, Kansas area in 1986. Phyllis attended Cedar Creek Schools. She was a homemaker. She was also employed as a production worker for Marley Company of Olathe, Kansas and Green Jewelry Co. of Lenexa, Kansas. She loved to raise Angus cattle, enjoyed fishing and was an active Franklin County Democrat. MARRIAGE: On December 14, 1957, Phyllis was united in marriage with Jim Herndon in Plattsburg, Missouri. He survives of their home. She is survived by her: Husband-Jim Herndon of the home; Daughter-Rita Reynolds of San Diego, California; Daughter-Sandra Ross of Elizabethton, Tennessee; Son-Roger Herndon of New Paris, Pennsylvania; Brother-Ray Farris of Rockaway Beach, Missouri; Brother-Rex Collins of Surprise, Arizona; Brother-Dennis Collins of Gallatin, Missouri; Sister-Rowena Hughes of Independence, Missouri; Brother-Don Collins of Liberty, Missouri; Four Grandchildren-Kathleen Reynolds, Angela Reynolds, James Reynolds, James Herndon; Two Great Grandchildren-Julian and Beau. She was preceded in death by her: Father-Andy Collins; Mother-Myrtle Collins; and a infant brother. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Herndon at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
