Peggy Lou Hainline York, 81, Louisburg, died peacefully at Menorah HospitalOverland Park, KS, surrounded by her family, July 29, 2011. Peggy was born January 30, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the only daughter of Eva Elizabeth and Grover C. Hainline and had two brothers, Arnold and Roy. Peggy moved to Spring Hill, Kansas where she graduated from Spring Hill High School. This is where she met and married her childhood sweetheart Leland A. York, June 12, 1949. Following their marriage Leland became a pilot in the United States Air Force and they lived in Kansas, Ohio and Massachusetts during his years of service as their family grew from two to nine. After Leland retired from the Air Force they settled in Osage City, KS later moving to Louisburg after their children were out of school. Peggy was an enthusiastic mother, grandmother and great grandmother for all her immediate family and also to her extended family as "Grandma Peggy" at the family owned Powell Pumpkin Patch. She loved crafting, sewing, knitting and crocheting, loved working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, but also shared her husband"s love of bird-watching. She and Leland also loved square dancing and traveled the world dancing together through the years. They were known internationally as "MA and PA". Peggy was a member of the Extension Homemakers and she and Leland were active in both 4-H Clubs and the Kansas Farm Bureau. They belonged to numerous square dance groups including the Sunflower Steppers of Osage City, and the Pioneer Plus, in Ottawa and were longtime Kansas N.E. District Dance Coordinators. Leland and Peggy planned all their trips around where they could stop and dance a tip or two. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and one son Brian Jay. Survivors include her husband Leland of the home; daughters, Sandra Kittson, of Ottawa, and Barbara Phillips and husband Bryan of Quenemo; sons, Daniel York and wife Martha of Drexel, MO; Gale York and wife Candy, Wayne York all of Albuquerque, NM, and Darrell York and wife Regina of Bucyrus; fourteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the "Grandma Peggy Children"s Fund" set up through Peoples Bank of Louisburg to help children in the Miami County area with special needs.
