Peggy Bernice Leis, age 69 passed gently into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, October 10, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was born on August 18, 1955 to Robert “Bob” Hites Sr and Bernice Hites (Burns). She grew up in Merriam, KS. Peggy was a great gymnast as a child and she loved riding horses as well as participating in the Old Shawnee Parade. Peggy graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 1973. After graduating Peggy moved with her family to Paola, KS where her father started and operated the Bob Hites Chevrolet Dealership which she enjoyed helping where she could. Peggy married Michael Davis in 1973 and she gave birth to Michele Bernice in 1974 and then Paul Michael came along in 1979. The marriage ended in divorce. Peggy, Michele and Paul share an unbreakable bond.
In 1985 Peggy met the love of her life, Victor Leis and they were united in marriage on February 12, 1988. Peggy welcomed becoming a mom to Derek, Lesley and Ryan which created even more love in her life.
Peggy enjoyed working different part-time jobs throughout the years, but her favorite was being a homemaker. Peggy greatly enjoyed volunteering with the church, especially the funeral dinners. She said that was one way of serving the Lord that she really enjoyed and was very important to her.
Peggy loved traveling anywhere with Victor. Many of their trips were road trips. Long trips or short, day trips it didn’t matter, as long as she was with Victor.
Peggy was always smiling. Her fun personality, compassion, positive spirit and contagious laugh led to many friendships.
Life was always an adventure, even if it was just riding along with Victor and Boo, their beloved dog to check the oil wells or off to cheer for one of their grandchildren in whatever event they might be in at the time. But every adventure, a stop at Dairy Queen for a little treat was inevitable and very much looked forward to. The little things gave her much joy.
Holidays and birthdays were made extra special. Peggy had a gift of making sure everyone felt included when we got together to celebrate. It was not unusual to come home for a holiday meal and see an extra place setting for someone who didn’t have another place to go. Peggy loved attending all of the grandchildren’s activities and events and spending time with them. She was able to enjoy what came to be the last slumber party with all of the grandchildren within the last week of her life.
Peggy was such a bright light to all who knew her and her passing will leave an emptiness that will last until we meet again.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her brother Bob Hites Jr, and her son Derek Leis.
Surviving in addition to her husband Victor Leis and her dog-son Boo are her daughters Michele Reynolds (Tony) of Spring Hill, KS, Lesley Seuferling (Mike) of Louisburg, KS, sons, Paul Davis (Amanda) of Paola, KS and Ryan Leis of Westwood, KS; Nine grandchildren, Brandon Reynolds (Casey), Libby Rohr (Bryson), Alyx VanRheen, Rocco Davis, Jude Davis, Cy Seuferling, Ollie Davis, Hites Davis and Lyvia Seuferling; one great grandson Beckett Rohr; Sister in Law, Pam Dorschner and nephew Jamie Hites of Wisconsin. Other Brother and Sister in laws and many nieces and nephews; close friends that are considered family.
We are forever grateful for the tremendous amount of love and support that was given to us during the past four months.
