Pearl “Pat” Patterson, Jr., age 73 of Overbrook, Kansas, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on Saturday, November 11, 1939 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Pearl and Esther (Sims) Patterson, Sr. Pat has lived in the Pomona and Lawrence area for the past thirteen years, moving from New Augusta, Mississippi. He has also resided in San Francisco and Stockton, Kansas. Pat graduated from Stockton High School with the class of 1958. He attended Washburn University and played half-back and linebacker on the football team. Pat and his brother co-owned and operated a small trucking business that delivered air-freight packages in the San Francisco area. Following his time in San Francisco, he worked as a supervisor of the sanitation department for a local municipal government in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After 12 years in New Augusta, Pat moved to Lawrence, Kansas where he supervised the bus drivers for the city, retiring in 1999. Pat was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting all kinds of wild game and fishing in his spare time. At the age of forty-seven, one of the greatest things in Pat’s life happened. He met Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He changed the way he was thinking and cleaned up his act. On October 4, 1960, Pat was united in marriage with Sandy Griffin. They later divorced. On April 7, 1984, Pat was united in marriage with Janie Goodin. They later divorced. He is survived by his: Daughter-Benita Bowman and her husband, David of Pomona, Kansas Daughter-Tonya Simms and her husband, Bobby of Ottawa, Kansas Son-Dean Patterson and his wife, Sherri of Phoenix, Arizona Brother-Randall Patterson of Union City, California Grandchildren-Jason Patterson, Dalton Patterson, Abigail Patterson, Mandy Steele, Jena Lawrence, Cody Bowman, Justin Simms, Jaime Simms, Josh Simms, Marcus McGee-Simms Great Grandchildren-Five He is preceded in death by his: Parents-Pearl and Esther Patterson, Sr. SERVICES: Private family service will be held at a later date.
