Paul Randall Summers was born on Thursday, November 20, 1924, in Prathersville, Missouri. He was the son of Roy and Nancy (Hart) Summers. Paul lived in rural Miami County, Kansas, prior to moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 2009, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the age of eighty-six years. Paul graduated from Excelsior Springs (Missouri) High School with the class of 1943. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Paul and his business partner, Jack Phillips, built houses in rural Miami County, Kansas. Prior to owning his own business, Paul worked at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas; on a ranch in Wyoming four to five years; worked in the Kansas City area as a Union Carpenter; and also worked on the family farm. Paul served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of the Carpenters Union of Kansas City and also a member of Farm Bureau. Paul was an outdoors person. He enjoyed his cattle and his farm. He preferred building a house outside to working inside a building. Carpentry was his job and his hobby. As he got older, he would make himself a device that would make his life easier. He always had time to play a game of cards and interact with his grandchildren. On September 25, 1948, Paul was united in marriage with Alice Nadyne Page. She preceded him in death on October 18, 1963. On July 6, 1979, Paul was united in marriage with Doris Hills Wobker in Oklahoma. She survives of their home. He is also survived by three stepsons, Larry Wobker and his wife, Betty, of Clemmons, North Carolina, Lynn Wobker and his wife, Darlene, of Osawatomie, Kansas, Lyle Wobker and his wife, Rita, of Paola, Kansas; sister, Vernalee S. Tester of Liberty, Missouri; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Paul is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elsie Hartnett, Flora Catherine Lockwood, Marietta Spor; brother, Edwin Summers; and an infant sibling. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Graveside Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. IN STATE: Mr. Summers will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 11:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 12:00 to 1:00 Saturday prior to service.
