Patricia A. “Pat” Horne, 81, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 26, 2021, at Vassar Cemetery, Vassar, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Pat was born April 19, 1940, at Ottawa, the daughter of Vernon and Betty (Miller) Underwood. She grew up and attended school in Ottawa, moving to Princeton in 1960 to 1996. Pat moved to Vassar in 1996 and Ottawa in 2019 where she made her home for the last year-and-a-half. Pat was united in marriage to Charles Robert “Bob” Horne August 3, 1957, at Ottawa. They were happily married 63 years having four children, Nancy, Deb, Tim, and Steve. Pat was employed as a carhop at the drive-in A&W Restaurant during the mid-1950’s; a cook at Drake Bakery in the late 1950’s; seamstress at H.D. Lee in the 1960’s to early 1970’s; alterations at Litwin’s in the mid-1970’s; bookkeeping/office worker at ALCO in the late 1970’s to mid-1980’s; bookkeeping at the Pomona Lake-North Shore Marina in the late 1980’s; receptionist at H&R Block in the mid-1990’s to early 2000’s; and for 26 years Pat helped her husband run the Happy Trails Chuck Wagon, retiring in 2017. Pat was a member of the Vassar Methodist Church; Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Association; and 4-H Club Leader in cooking and sewing. Hobbies Pat enjoyed included sewing, crafts, handwork, reading, camping, and watching old westerns. Above all, Pat loved her family and the time they spent together. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob January 26, 2021; her parents and sister Linda Potocnik. Survivors include four children, Nancy (Randy) Mitchell of Schofield, Wisconsin, Deb Horne of Ottawa, Tim (Angie) Horne of Baldwin City, and Steve Horne of Ottawa; three siblings, Karen Miller of Ottawa, Gary (Susan) Gumm of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dennis (Mary Lou) Gumm of Derby, Kansas; six grandchildren, Ivan (Leslie) Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Kaleb (Clare) Horne, Ethan Horne and fiancé Myriah Pippert, and Colton (Hannah) Horne; and eight great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Power of the Past c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
