Owen Thomas Frakes, 89, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at AdventHealth, Ottawa. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 19, 2022, with Masonic services by Anchor Lodge No. 224, Williamsburg and military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Owen was born November 14, 1932, at Hillsdale, Kansas, the son of Fred J. and Nettie May (Moser) Frakes. He lived in Ottawa since the 1940’s and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1950. Owen served in the United States Army from February 1955 to December 1956. He was united in marriage to Betty Hughes in the mid-1980’s in Ottawa. They later divorced. Owen was a lifelong, self-employed farmer and stockman. He was a lifelong member of the Anchor Lodge No. 224, A.F. & A.M. of Williamsburg, Kansas, earning a 50-year pin. Owen was also a member of the Aerie Lodge 2700, Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Lodge 803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Owen loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoe trips to Noel, Missouri, playing cards and visiting with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include cousins, Deborah Richardson (Dave) of Ottawa, Dwayne LaGalle (Rhonda) of Ottawa, and Betty LaGalle of Overland Park; and like a son, Gary Goodloe (Rebecca) of Ottawa. The family suggests memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
