Orlanda Manci Bazin

Orlanda Manci Bazin, 90, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2018. She was a member of Cure of Ars Catholic Church for many years. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Louisburg Kansas. Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church at 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Orlanda was born on March 6, 1927, the daughter of Sam and Stefena Manci of Franklin, Kansas. She graduated from Arma High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, Kansas, now called Pittsburg State University, where she graduated with a BS in Education in 1948. Orlanda was very active in her college sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha and many other organizations. She was recognized in the 1948 Edition of Who’s Who’s among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Upon graduation she taught school in Kincaid, Kansas. Orlanda married George Leo Bazin on July 30, 1949 Orlanda and George had three children. Orlanda was very involved in numerous organizations in Kansas City, chiefly Young Matrons. She was a dedicated home economist, excelling in cuisine and the domestic arts. She was an outstanding conversationalist and brought a gracious beauty and ease to all social settings. After a divorce in 1979, Orlanda began a career as the Midwest Sales Representative for Appetizers, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois. She was later promoted to Midwest Sales Manager, with six people reporting to her throughout the Midwest. She traveled extensively through the Midwest and was well known in that business as being the first woman sales representative and later manager. Orlanda was very proud that her success opened the door for many other women to enter that field. Orlanda retired in 1993. She was a 2003 cancer survivor, and she survived heart bypass surgery in December 2009. After spending over 50 years at her beloved house that she personally designed at 9600 Lee Boulevard in Leawood, Kansas, she moved to McCrite Plaza in October 2016 due to failing health. She suffered a major stroke last week which led to her death. Orlanda was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Stefena Manci, her brother Sam Manci, her sister Elizabeth Robinson, and former husband George. Survivors include her three children: Lana McClellan of New Braunfels, Texas; George (Susie) Bazin of Galveston, Texas; and Robert (Mary) Bazin of Louisburg, Kansas. She was the proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Miles and Mark Andrew McClellan of New Braunfels, TX; Mark Bazin of Houston, TX; Peter Bazin of Dickinson, ND; Johanna Hackemack of Albany, NY; and George Bazin of Louisburg, KS. She was also a great-grandmother to Kay Leigh, Christian, Eden, Everett McClellan of New Braunfels, TX; John Bazin of Dickinson, ND; Isaac Bazin of Houston, TX; and Peter Hackemack of Albany, NY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were dear to her. A special mention goes to Dr. Beth Bazin who provided skilled and loving care to Orlanda and who was present at her passing. The final surviving member of Orlanda’s generation is her cousin Joy Alfonsi of Niles, IL.
