Opene Ellene Silvey, 99, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Garden Terrace, Overland Park, Kansas.

Cremation is planned with a graveside inurnment service to be held 2:00pm, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Hope Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.

Opene was born Monday, June 17. 1924, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of John Wesley and Earnest Beatrice (Brady) Warren.

She was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1942.

Opene was united in marriage on February 3, 1945, in Ottawa, Kansas to Reggie Silvey, Sr. He preceded her in death.

She spent her life devoted to her family and helping with her husband’s tree service. Opene was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Ottawa, Kansas. She was an avid BINGO player and enjoyed sitting on the porch while talking to others. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Along with her husband Reggie, she was preceded in death by son James Silvey and daughter Marida Meeks.

Survivors include son Reggie Silvey, Jr. (Sandy) of Ottawa, Kansas; grandchildren Tony Moore (Susan) of Ottawa, Kansas, Travis Marmon (Lori) of Ottawa, Kansas, Kalie Meeks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Ayana Meeks-Graves (Randy) of Buffalo, New York; and six great grandchildren.
