Opal A. Boone, 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Dengel & Son Mortuary. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the mortuary. Opal was born Friday, May 3, 1940, in Minneapolis, Kansas, the daughter of George William and Leta Elizabeth (Shepard) Holzapfel. Her childhood was spent in the Delphos/Miltonvale, Kansas area. She moved to Salina, Kansas upon marrying, where she lived for three years. Upon the death of her first husband, she moved to Ottawa where she lived the remainder of her life. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1963. Later in life she attended Neosho County Community College to obtain an Associates of Business Certification Degree. Opal was united in marriage with Charles A. Everhart August 23, 1956, in Hebron, Nebraska. He preceded her in death April 1, 1959. She married Harold G. Boone in 1979, in Ottawa, Kansas. They later divorced. Survivors include her three children, Harvey Joe Everhart of Ft. Worth, Texas, C. Cloe Everhart of Ottawa, and Barbara E. Mesik also of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Brad and Anita (Everhart) Rockhold of Ottawa, Michael Everhart of Osage City, Kansas, and Shea and Brodi Mesik, both of Ottawa; five great grandchildren; siblings, LaVern Holzapfel and wife Daveen, Orletha Johnson, and Rose K. E. Laster all of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by her first husband; and parents. Opal’s professions throughout life were diverse. She worked as a seamstress for Mode O?Day and HD Lee Corporations, both in Ottawa; spent a few years as an over the road truck driver, as well as, an in-home caregiver. Prior to retiring in 2012, she spent more than fifteen years in clerical and customer service jobs for Deffenbaugh Disposal Systems, Kansas City, Kansas, and finally receptionist and medical records clerk at Heartland Pulmonary & Internal Medicine, Ottawa.
