Ollie J. Gruver, 100, Ottawa, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. She was born Sept. 9, 1906, at Riner, Va., to Charlie and Annie (Hatcher) Jewell. Ollie grew up and lived in Virginia until moving to this area in 1934. Ollie attended Burmin School in Riner, Virginia. Ollie was a homemaker and also self-employed doing upholstery work for many years. She was a member of Overbrook Extension Homemaker Unit. On June 10, 1934, Ollie was united in marriage with Laurence L. Gruver at Centropolis, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 17, 1965. Survivors include a son, Calvin D. Gruver, Centropolis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by sisters, Lula Bishop, Clydie Jewell, Bessie Gruver and Nellie Howard; brothers, Ballard Jewell and Frank Jewell. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for graveside services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2007. CEMETERY: Pleasant Hill Cemetery outside of Centropolis, Kansas.
