Oliver C. "Clint" Fredricks

Oliver C. “Clint” Fredricks, 95, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Thursday, June 11, 2020, at home with family by his side. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Antioch Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Clint was born December 15, 1924, in Ottawa, the son of Clifford C. and Lillian A. (Willis) Fredricks. He grew up in the Homewood area living in various locations including Scottsdale, Arizona for 8 years, Melvern, Kansas 13 years, and in 1981, Clint moved to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death. He attended Homewood School, Ottawa University graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Arizona State University graduating in 1968, with a Masters in Guidance and Counseling, and attended Emporia State University’s Doctorate Program. Clint married Patsy C. Swope July 20, 1962, in Nogales, Mexico. They shared nearly fifty-eight years of married life together. Clint was a lifelong teacher. In the late 1940’s, he taught at the Pomona Junior High, Pomona, Kansas; in the early to late 1960’s at Scottsdale, Arizona schools; Marais des Cygnes Valley Schools in the late 1960’s to 1980’s; and finished at Ottawa Middle School in the early 1990’s where he taught 6th grade and the gifted program. He was a member of the Crosspointe Community Church and former member of Calvary Baptist Church. Clint enjoyed yardwork, gardening plants and flowers, swimming, animals, horses, and cooking. Above all, he loved his family and grandchildren and the time they spent together. He was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Fredricks; parents, Clifford and Lillian Fredricks; sister, Lucille King and brother, Herb Fredricks. Clint is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home; four children, Steve Fredricks of Lawrence, Kerry (Richard) Mendell of Ottawa, Brent Fredricks of Ottawa, and Jerrod (Brenda) Fredricks also of Ottawa; twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Crosspointe Community Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
